As some of you know, DBSK’s newest song (other than Bolero…), MIROTIC, was banned for some ages in Korea not too long ago because of what are being called inappropriate lyrics. (Are Soulja Boy or any other American songs with pretty inappropriate lyrics banned for ages 19 and under too? ’cause if not, that just doesn’t seem fair…especially when DBSK is so pretty…) SM got all mad and everything and argued that the South Korean government was interpreting it in an erotic way when it’s not (…but it is…) but apparently, SM doesn’t have as much power as we all thought, because, although DBSK is back performing MIROTIC, the lyrics aren’t exactly the same.
Watch the MIROTIC part of this. (Thanks, spazzes, for the link!) Notice anything different?
Original lyrics: “I got you~ under my skin.”
Changed lyrics: “I got you~ under my sky.”
…HAHAHA. XD Brilliance. Well, brilliance is the sense that it’s just so stupid that I have to laugh and love DBSK even more for performing it even with the change.
What do you think about this whole MIROTIC controversy? Do you think the lyrics are inappropriate for a band as well-respected as DBSK (or any other band)? Should the song really be banned for people under 19? Should DBSK have agreed to sing the new silly version? Answer in the comments, I’d love to hear just how silly or serious you think all of this is.
NO! Definitely not! The new lyrics are absolutely ridiculous. DSBK should not have performed the clean version of Mirotic, but then again, it’s their choice. Under 19? Pfft, honestly, is ANYTHING censored anymore? Look, even 12-year-olds can watch R-21 movies if their parents are watching it and don’t particularly care. And the music industry have much more relaxed censors compared to the movie industry. I don’t think songs need censors no matter how sexually suggestive the lyrics may be. Britney is singing about having threesomes, foursomes, moresomes, but does anyone care? No, the media only spares a few words to call the song ’sexy’. Considering DBSK is not singing about anything more provocative than Britney, I don’t understand why they can’t keep their original lyrics if Britney can.
Although I can understand that Asian communities are more reserved about sexual issues -being Asian myself-, I cannot accept the unreasonable behaviour of the South Korean government. In Singapore, most conservative traditions of Asians are preserved. You don’t see the Singapore government rushing to ban DBSK’s MIROTIC album. Admittedly, we don’t understand the Korean lyrics, but the principle of the matter is still present!
Sometimes, I really can’t stand those self-righteous people in positions of power. D:<
